Overview
The TRITON-270 module is a DIMM200 board
based on the new Marvell XScale PXA270 cpu. Smaller than a credit-card, the TRITON-270 has been designed as an embedded CPU module that you can easily integrate into your new product designs. By using the TRITON-270, you benefit from volume prices and reduced design times. Typically the only part needed is a simple 2 or 4-layer PCB carrier board that contains the peripherals required for your product.
The TRITON-270 was the world's first PXA270 System On Module (SOM) and started shipping the first week of October 2004.
Development Kit
The Triton Development Kit-3 is based on the Triton-270 module and is supplied with Linux or Windows CE 5.0 and CE 6.0, both of which are developed in-house.
PXA270
Designed from the ground up for wireless clients and incorporating the latest advances in mobile technology, the PXA270 processors are the first Intel XScale cpu's to include :
• |
Wireless MMX technology that enables high-performance multimedia acceleration with an industry proven instruction set. In addition, |
• |
Quick Capture which is a flexible and powerful camera interface for capturing digital images and video. |
While performance abounds in the Marvell PXA27x processor, power consumption is also a critical component. The new capabilities of Wireless Intel SpeedStep® Technology provide a quantum leap forward in low-power operation. Finally, the Marvell PXA27x family stacks Intel StrataFlash® memory and low-power SDRAM with the processor for more functionality in a smaller footprint.

Expansion
The TRITON-270 is supplied with a DIMM200 connector to provide the designer with access to the PXA270's signals for nearly unlimited expansion. See the Specifications below or download the datasheet for full connector pin-outs.
Extreme Low Power Consumption!
Perfect for wireless and multimedia battery-powered applications, the TRITON-270 is equipped with ultra-low-power components including mobile 1.8V SDRAM's and 1.8V Flash.
The TRITON-270 also contains the unique programmable core power generator which allows you to vary the CPU voltage from 1.1V to 1.3V to further reduce consumption. This can be further reduced by using a combination of Wireless SpeedStep technology, sleep-mode and clock-rate selection. With these features it is possible to flexibly control the total power-consumption for any application.
Example power consumption: <1mA standby / active >13mA

Comparing the PXA270 to the PXA255
Features that do not exist in the PXA255:
- 256kB internal SRAM
- USB 1.1 host controller
- Baseband/Multimedia Interface
- Memory Stick host controller
- Keypad interface
- Universal SIM interface
Main improvements of PXA270 compared to PXA255's existing features:
- Power management (Wireless SpeedStep)
- Wireless MMX
- More advanced LCD controller
- 3 instead of 1 SSP
- RTC now can be used with a backup battery
- 4 instead of 2 PWM outputs
